The series features the 25th New Macross-class Colonial Fleet, dubbed the Macross Frontier, en route to the galactic center. This heavily-populated interstellar fleet (consisting of numerous civilian vessels and their military escorts) contains a makeup of both human occupants and their Zentradi allies. As such, many of the Macross Frontier's companion vessels appear to merge more metallic Human designs with organic Zentradi aesthetics. On the Macross timeline, the story is set in the year 2059, 47 years after the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross and 19 years after Macross Plus. Read More...
What if John Woo directed a Lupin anime feature? That's essentially the premise of Lupin III: Island of Assassins, as there's plenty of gunplay, martial arts, thrown knives, and edge-of-your-seat action that never lets up in a darker, more "extreme" version of Lupin that defies the usual expectations of the Lupin franchise yet doesn't stray far from what makes Lupin (overall) great.
Lupin's out for revenge this time around, as it seems that someone has made use of his gun to try and kill Inspector Zenigata. Although the basic plot sounds like it could have easily fit into a standard episode of the TV series, this 90 minute feature fills out nicely, as there's enough action going on to keep anyone entertained. This new series still looks and feels like the original manga which spawned the EPIC movie in the 1980's (which the editors of anime.com rate as easily one of the best-ever anime of all time), so you know we're loving seeing it all over again, but this time with a much higher production value.
The plot will remind some of the overall gestalt of the X-Men: The psyonic "Mu" (mutants), are perceived as a threat by the "normal" humans and are hunted down to be exterminated. Humans now live in a computer-controlled, technology-driven paradise, and have colonized the stars. Any mutant DNA is tested, filtered for and eliminated. Read More...
Bravestarr
Animation DVD Review by Lawrence Sufrin
"In a distant time, and far away place. The planet New Texas floats deep in space. A sky with three suns. Land of precious ore. The kerium rush brought outlaws by the score. Then one day, a lawman appeared, with powers of hawk, wolf, puma and bear. Protector of peace. Mystic man from afar. Champion of justice, Marshall Bravestarr!!!"
In the late 1980's, three cartoon series were released into the syndication market. All of them were what you might call "Space Westerns". They took place in the far flung future, and featured starships and alien worlds. They also had heroes who wore 10-gallon hats, and seemed to be more at home on the range. One of them, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, was an adaptation of the anime series "Bismark". The other was "The Adventures of Galaxy Rangers", a series that was the inspiration for the classic anime series, "Cowboy Bebop". Read More...
Hello Kitty USB 2.0 Flash Drive 256 MB
Anime Gizmo Review by Brian Cirulnick
There are a lot of character-based flash drives now available. From Star Wars to Snoopy, you can find a flash drive for just about anything that strikes your fancy. And speaking of fancy, for this price, it had better come with a real kitty. 256MB flash drives can be had for practically nothing (flash-based devices are now getting so cheap, people are talking about them replacing hard drives, particularly in laptops), we're not sure what makes this one so expensive -- must be the Sanrio Tax...
Regardless, if you simply MUST have everything Hello Kitty (and trust me, there are people like this in the world), then this flash drive rules. How are you NOT getting through life without this?
There hasn't been a manga that has caught and held my interest more tenaciously than Seduction more Beautiful than Love in a long long time. I thought it was just another love story with pretty visuals to go with it but the more you read the more engaging it is and deeper you get into everything. It's like one of those sappy Korean dramas that everyone is into these days; you think it's just another love story with maybe a love triangle or rectangle thrown in for fun. That's how it all starts, right? Read More...
Tokyopop has started making their manga double-thick, or this is the new trend in manga, which used to follow a rather rigid format, but now you get twice the book you were expecting. And what a book it is -- with all the gusto of the anime series, all that's missing is the music (although feel free to play the soundtrack on your ipod while reading the manga). Read More...
When I was in High School, I started running into Kyle Baker on the Q5 Bus in Queens NY and even back then he was drawing crazy cartoons with weird characters and some really atrocious puns. But Kyle can draw anything. With a career than includes Marvel Comics, DC, and a successful series of his own creations, he can do anything he puts his mind to, and do it better than just about anyone. Read More...
