Good Luck! Ninomiya-Kun!
Good Luck! Ninomiya-Kun!
Anime Review by John Martone

Good Luck! Ninomiya-Kun!Sometimes you don't want a filet mignon, Goshusho-sama Ninomiya-kun understands. There are times when you just want to see a well animated, fast paced pile of contrived situations marked as ìplot devices.î Sure, the refined critic might complain about a plot centric on a female succubus who is afraid of men, and the disinterested boy who is forced to help her get over this issue.. but the show can just genuinely be quite fun. Hero Tales DVD
Hero Tales
Anime Review by Brian Cirulnick

Hero TalesHero Tales starts with the kind of climactic, apocalyptic battle normally reserved for the final battle in a tv series or movie. But we're just getting started... You see, because even though the protagonist immediately faces off against the chief baddie, he gets his ass kicked. Badly.

So, he needs to spend part of the series training, as well as meeting those who will help him in his quest, so the next meeting between the rivals won't go as badly for the hero.

The series is based on the mythical gods that are tied to the stars that make up the big dipper (although Funimation uses their English names in the dub rather than their Japanese names), and the two Nitenshinson, the Hagun and Tanrou, are never supposed to exist at the same time, as their battle could destroy the world, but fate has decided otherwise. Blue Drop
Blue Drop
Anime Review by John Martone

Blue DropHoly pile of genres! Blue Drop, by Akihito Yoshitomi, is anime which totes being a science fiction yuri coming of age romance. Oh, and its also a tragedy. Sure, sad things happen, but the real tragedy is that none of the vital, interesting things actually happen within the series proper. We mean this literally, as the plot of this anime is inexplicably tied to a manga that may never be seen in the United States.

Steeped in a mythos of war, humanity was invaded by the Arume, a humanoid race of all women from an alternate version of Earth. The typical story of a dying race trying to supplement its civilization with our world, what's not typical is that we lose this war. While Blue Drop takes place as a prequel, entirely before the war, its vital to understand that it is coming, and our defeat is inevitable. The sun rises in the east, and humanity loses the war. Galaxy Express 999
Galaxy Express 999
Anime Review by Brian Cirulnick

Leiji MatsumotoAlthough not as big a hit as Harlock and Yamato, Galaxy Express 999 is one of Matsumoto's greatest creations. Sure, it seems silly, a choo-choo train flying through space, but this series starts off with the brutal slaying of the protagonist's mother *for sport* so you know there's going to be some serious ass-kicking before things are through.

GE999 is a social commentary, with practically every episode being some sort of parable regarding what's screwed up with the Earth. And Tetsuro, who's traveling to get a robot body, is also taking a journey of self-discovery, learning that it's better to be human, all the while being mentored by what may be the most dangerous woman in the universe. Naruto - Kunai Throwing Knife Set

Naruto - Kunai Throwing Knife Set
Please note that these are collectables, not toys (so don't poke your eye out!) — in fact I wouldn't even advise you to incorporate them into your cosplay. However the goodies would be great on display in your anime trophy case at home. The set includes a black nylon cloth-wrapped handle and even a nylon carrying sheath.

Manga Review
by Linda Yau

.hack//linkIn the process of making an online Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game popular, the company that produces the game would first build momentum by publicizing it, and having a beta period, where gamers would be invited to test out the system, and report on bugs. This beta trial period is usually capped at a player limit. There is normally no player limit when the game is released for mass consumption; however what happens if the demand for a game overextends the supply? Read More...

Anime Book Review
by Brian Cirulnick

cosplayIf you've ever been to a Sci-Fi or anime convention, you already know that cosplay is more than 50% of the entire show. But perhaps you don't know that cosplay events go beyond conventions. Cosplay is huge at this time, and we predict it will become even bigger as time goes on.

Danny Choo, everybody's favorite site on the web for all things weird for fanboys, has put together a few books covering things of interest to oktaku, and this one is the best of the bunch, covering international cosplayers in their finest gear. (Francesca Dani is pretty yummy in that maid outfit, can she come over and clean my place?) Visit our Cosplay shine...

Art of Kiki's Delivery Service
The Art of Kiki's Delivery Service
Anime Book Review by Brian Cirulnick

Kiki's Delivery ServiceKiki never gets enough of a spotlight from anime in general, this and Porco Rosso are Miyazaki's most under-rated films, but trust us when we say that each one is a delight, and Kiki is wonderful and awesome on a scale that most anime never comes close to achieving.

That said, if you're interested in seeing "behind the scenes", with un-retouched background art, character designs, rough sketches, storyboards, camera techniques, and more, then you need to get your hands on this book, as it will inspire your creative spirit, light a fire in your heart, and make you want to draw and draw some more.
