Big Windup!
Anime DVD Review
Facing your dreams is hard if you don't have confidence in yourself. That's the dilemma that faces Ren Miashi. Utterly humiliated by a high school baseball team that despises and bullies him, he heads off to another high school. His love of pitching is such that he joins on impulse, but his self-esteem is in tatters.
The coaches and kids on this new team won't stand for Miashi's low self-esteem to get in the way of his goals and the goals of the team. So, they set about getting him in shape mentally and physically to become what Miashi always dreamed about being— a first-class pitcher.
This is a wonderful series that captures Japan's love affair with baseball, and the dedication it takes to become the best. We get to see how Miashi's team members look out after each other and support each other. We also get caught up in the excitement and suspense of the game itself, the internal and external challenges each member faces. The series stresses the importance of believing in yourself and not giving up, no matter how hard the obstacle, no matter how brazen the critics.
If you're a baseball fan, this is one show you absolutely have to watch. You'll find yourself caught up in the lives of Miashi and his team mates, and you'll be rooting for them every step of the way. Get yourself ready, because it's time to play ball!!
