Manga Review

Yummy is the first word that comes into my mind when I think of Doors of Chaos. If you just glance at it, it looks very busy, too busy even. Between the scant but intricate clothes that our heroes and heroines wear and the many shades of blue, black, red, and brown everywhere on that cover, some people might just skip over this because their eyes are getting a little bleary. Doors of Chaos don't hold back in suggesting sex in any way, shape, or form as well. Between bondage, S&M, and rape, I think this is only the beginning. For those of you, who have stronger eyes and stomachs, don't look at the big picture with this one; it's the details and complexity that your eyes are enticed with.

Doors of ChaosI have never been the one for the Goth look but I'm willing to take another peek at it after this. What is lacking in color definitely does not lack in anything else, my God! I can practically feel their clothes right off the paper. Seeing the Victorian styles, your skin tingles, remembering the roughness of leather and suede then totters towards the ethereal embrace of ruffles, laces, and silk that brushes so softly and deftly that perhaps you might not be imagining their presence. Your skin can indulge themselves in the cracks of the leather as your eyes trace the complex maze of drops, the bonte de neiges, the toiles, dots, and tattings of the lace.

Doors of ChaosYour mind bounces between the two extremes: the one that binds so doggedly and the other that disintegrates by the slightest graze of your fingertips. Can you feel the flicker of ribbons on your cheeks when the winds take them for a dance? Perhaps the smooth skin and the occasional skip of a thread as you run your fingers over fishnet stockings? Do your hands crave for the caress of silken handkerchiefs or silk gloves? Or perhaps what they want is something that they can ferociously grab onto to painfully jolt the nerves into utter awareness?

Doors of ChaosIf you don't want to grab onto anything, look at all the body art that shows up. Even for someone that dreaded the idea of getting my ears pierced once, the thought of getting one of these tattoos has been drifting through my mind non-stop. As your fingers are tracing the complexity of all the hoops, loops, points, and lines of the tattoo, it makes them feel like they are dancing a waltz all over Clarissa's back onto her arms. Zelfa's tattoos that run up and down his arms onto his hands are fair game, too. What can you think of to do with the tattoo on his cheek and legs? Make your imagination work...

When your senses calm down enough and you no longer smell the presence of the non-existent leather, you can immerse yourself in the world of Diurnal. It is a world that is precariously protected by four Doors that hold the demons of the Chaos at bay.

Doors of ChaosThe operators of these Doors are two naive teenage girls, Clarissa and Mizeria Rezelput; one to open them and the other to close them, constantly preserving the balance between the two worlds. The Jishouin has appointed the Dark Guardian of the Keys, Rikhter, to educate and protect these two girls as they grow up in the palace gardens. As their 16th birthday draws near and they are finally allowed to rejoin the Diurnal world, the demons of Chaos, which have been in hiding, plot to open the Doors and flood the human world once again. As their plan is underway and Clarissa is kidnapped, Jishouin's appointed White Guardian of the Keys, Zelfa, arrives just as Mizeria is about to be kidnapped. To make matters worse, it seems that Rikhter has turned traitor and is helping the demons use Clarissa to open all the Doors.

It would be great to see if Jishouin and Zelfa is able to protect Mizeria from all the demons as she follows Rikhter and Clarissa around the world, closing the Doors and trying to find out why they are doing what they are doing, but most of all I want to see where else does everyone have tattoos and how much more can these artists tease my senses.
