Ghost Talker's Daydream
Anime DVD Review
Masaki Saiki sees dead people all the time, and it's really pissing her off. Bad enough she has a day job as a dominatrix for an Exclusive Club. She also has to take work for a secret government agency that investigates paranormal phenomena. With all of this going on, she's not getting a good night's sleep. She can't even take a decent vacation without getting knee-deep in a mystery involving a busload of dead children.
Masaki's problems are personal, professional, and cosmetic. (The later we can't really discuss here.) The whole thing is making her a bitch to get along with. Her chassis might be gorgeous, but her skin is very thin. She's a nervous wreck.
Masaki has major issues, and so does her contact from the government agency. Souichiro Kadotake is a fine agent and a skilled fighter. He can open a can of whoop-ass with the best of them. His battle skills, however, have not helped his self-esteem. He's a klutz who's hopeless around women. He can't stand ghosts.
With all this, and some lovesick boy who can't help but stalk her, Masaki has enough on her plate. She doesn't need Ai to complicate things. Ai is a women's high school student who can also communicate with ghosts. She wants to help them like Masaki does. Masaki is in no mood to become anyone's mentor, "thank you very much, now will you please go away"?
Adapted from the manga by Saki Okuse and Sankichi Meguro, Ghost Talker's Daydream has nudity, violence, ghosts, bawdy humor, horror, sado/masochism, rape, and of course, Adult Situations. (While not as blatant as Hentai, It's still not for the kiddies.) That would have been enough for any other OAV anime series. This cartoon goes the extra kilometer by adding tight scripting and intriguing characterization. You'll find Masaki interesting for reasons that don't involve her skimpy outfit.
