Anime DVD Review

Vampires. I just love them. Whether you are old school and go with Dracula or new school with your flamboyant Lestat, cool Blade, or hot Selene, vampires are just intriguing and sexy. Immortality for the price of killing your own kind is sinfully tantalizing. It's like eating a slice (OK, maybe a pie) of double chocolate mousse cake with a glass of regular milk (none of that fat-free, 2%, or skim please) when you know you need to lose those love tires, I mean handles.

Lunar LegendVampires are what attracted me to Tsukihime but what made me stay with it was the real main character of this story, Shiki Tohna. A high school student with a past he can't remember but still keeps haunting him. Thought of as a frail and sickly child, everyone looks out for him, not knowing that they are protecting a killer. He is such an efficient killer that even a vampire needs him to protect her and help her kill her enemies.

Shiki's missing memory of his past is not the only mystery that is in his life. His sister keeps asking him if he's feeling sick again. Shiki thinks that he killed people but he'll wake up the next day in his own bed, blood-free. A girl that likes him was reported as dead in the news but shows up at school the next day. A quiet straight-laced friend that eerily resembles a religious vigilante, that seems to be following Shiki wherever he go at night. As Shiki's world gets turned in all sorts of directions, he can't hide behind the faÁade that he placed on the people around him anymore. It is time for Shiki to face up.

If you liked Witch Hunter Robin, you'll find this series to be the best horror anime so far. Although the series seems slow at points, it includes some amazingly violent sequences, and is rated for 16 or up.

Life Threads (Vol. 1)

Anime DVD Review

Expect a complex plot, imperfect, multi-layered characters, and a surprise or two when you pick up this gothic-romance, vampire-killer drama. If you liked Witch Hunter Robin, you'll find this series to be the best horror series so far.

Lunar Legend TsukihimeShiki Tohno, the hero of the story, has the ability to see the "life threads" that bind everything and everyone together. Cutting those threads will kill or destroy. He must wear special glasses to avoid being able to kill with a glance. Yet, the threads that bind him will take a turn as he meets up with a vampire and she insists he join her quest to destroy the Apostles. Although the series seems slow at points, it includes some amazingly violent sequences, and is rated for 16 or up.
