My-Otome
Anime DVD Review
I want to be an Otome, toooooooooooo! Who needs the opposite sex? Love? Psft. Drip IV bags of nanomachines into my system? Bring them on. Even if I have to give up my life in service of some shmuck, who cares?! I WANT TO LOOK COOL!
I probably won't have to start my life off like a female Moses like the main character, Arika Yumemiya. Being chased by people that can control gigantic monsters called Slaves and having my family wiped out isn't a lot of fun. Being picked up by a "grandmother" and raised in the desert doesn't sound particularly fun either. She had it a little better than Moses though; instead of being left in a reed basket and left to flow down a river, she had a golden baby basket (don't ask me how THAT can float down a river). Also, just in case no one recognizes her as the Princess that she is, she floated away with a beautiful sapphire that enhances Otome powers on her.
Fourteen years later, Arika resurfaces again because her grandmother passed away, leaving her with only one piece of information: her mother was an Otome. Naturally, since Mom was an Otome, Arika has to be one, too. With that, Arika travels to the Amazonian world of Garderobe Academy, where all great Otomes come from. All student Otomes spend their whole day dressed like French maids and when the upperclasswomen shower, all underclasswomen must take turns to service them. When I say service them, I meant like scrub their backs or bring them towels or soaps. What kind of service did you think I meant?
Once you become a Meister Otome, which is the highest Otome level one can attain, you can run around in a half Spandex, half suit of armor that enhances your strength so you can kill anything or protect anything you want. After Arika witnessed Meister Shizuru's battle dance with a Slave, she swoons into her arms and decides that she is definitely going to become an Otome. Well... come to think of it... if someone saved your life, looks HOT, tells you you have potential to become an Otome, and blows softly into your ear, you might swoon like Arika, too. It doesn't really matter that Arika and Meister Shizuru are both girls, right? Another thing to think about: Meister Shizuru might have a thing for the Headmistress of Garderobe Academy, too.
I think I just might continue to watch My Z Hime just to see if this school is as scandalous as I think it is. Even if it is not scandalous, I would like see what happens to our Amazonian Moses in this school. I wonder if she'll be able to get the powers to "part the Red Sea"...
