Takeru Opera Susanoh Sword of the Devil
Manga Review
Good or bad, there is a consistent appeal to reading about the power of three. Nothing can go wrong with three guys all named Takeru right? Probably, but that is a reason to turn the pages of Takeru Opera Susanoh Sword of the Devil. Treachery, drama, epic quality, and fantasy elements make up the rest of this four volume series. The manga, makes the usage of contrasting sides. It is either one or the other.
A fantasy world is created and with it comes civilizations at bitter wars, who would win these wars? Or is there a third party of opposition?
Izumo no Takeru starts on a journey to search for the sword of Susanoh. The sword is said to be crafted by the gods, and is of untold powers. Searching for clues, he is joined by Kumaso no Takeru and Oguna no Takeru. These three men have very different backgrounds, and strengths. However, with the similarity in names, bonds are formed. Bonds are also tested, as that is what the three Takerus would face, as the story rolls in.
To not give away much of the story, fans picking up this manga should note that Kazuki Nakashima created this story. You may not know who he is just by the Japanese name, but any recent anime fans should have heard of his more famous series, Gurren Lagann. Nakashima was responsible for the series composition of the anime, and supervised the manga was adapted from the anime.
Similar reads for this varied series is either Basara, for a fantasy world, that is filled with the mention of prophecy, gods, secrecy, and conflicts. Chronicles of the Cursed Sword is also a similar read alike with the focus on a sword, and conflicts that come with it. A third similar read alike is found in Claymore, with the mention of a strong female race that sacrifices their body to fight, this is found within the first two volumes.
