The Witch of Artemis

"The world is larger than we think," stars and celestial bodies surround Earth. You can see it, if you stare upward, with the moon orbiting this planet as the closest neighbor. With the advent of the space race in the last century, there is a search for life beyond. This is the reality, as governments around the word invest money in exploring the astral frontier. However what happens if there is indeed an unknown second world that is coexistent right alongside Earth? This is the premises explored in The Witch of Artemis.
Kazuki is dissatisfied with the life that he is living, and wants to prove his late father's belief in a second world. Of course no one believes him, especially his older brother who insists that he gets his head out of the clouds. Yet on a chance meeting of one witch, led him to be thrown into Artemis, this second world with another witch.
 Marie is the second witch that Kazuki is thrown with. She is a cute girl who doesn't want anything to do with Kazuki. She wants to do good unspoken deeds though, and ends with putting up with him.
Artemis exists, in isolation from Earth. The inhabitants on Artemis don't want Earth to find out that they exist, since there is a potential for the people on Artemis be magic users. This may be coveted and exploited by Earthlings. There are no distinct features of Earth, when Kazuki inhabit there, but Artemis is definitely quintessential of a homely French rural town.
This is the first book of Yui Hara, which is licensed by Tokyopop, and there are three volumes, in this relatively short series. This is a clean story, with art that can satisfy readers seeking a simple and uncomplicated read. Other similar themed read-alikes that readers should check-out Kobato on happy deeds fulfillment, and Twin Spica, with a curiosity towards exploring space.
