Lucky Star
Anime Series Review by Carolyn Whu
Think cute, cavity cute. Add in a bit of inane humor. Stir and let it boil on the stove a bit and you just might get Lucky Star. It's been compared to South Park with less cursing and better animation but I think it's more like an animated version of Seinfeld. If you've never heard of Seinfeld, I feel so bad for you because you've been living under a rock for the last decade or two.., but then you should feel a little bad if you do know what I'm talking about because that means you're OLD enough to know what I'm talking about. REC
Anime Series Review by Brian Cirulnick
REC is the touching and amusing story of a cute girl who is an aspiring anime voice-actress, and her dull, unappealing, pathetic, loser, salaryman "boyfriend". Based on the five-volume manga series of the same name, REC is a slice-of-life romantic comedy that ran for nine twelve-minute episodes in February and March of 2006.
26-year old "salaryman" Fumihiko Matsumaru is looking for a little romance in his life (and bombing out at it) just as he meets Aka, an adorable up-and-coming voice actress (seiyuu) whose apartment complex has burnt to the ground while the two were out at a show. The sympathetic Matsumaru invites her to stay with him for as long as she needs, but he hasn't bargained on the personality conflicts, sexual tension and cramped living Aka's intrusion brings into his life.

Princess Tutu
Anime DVD Review by Carolyn Whu
A dark surreal modern day fairy tale. I'm not talking about a ìnew takeî on fairy tales like the new movie "Enchanted" where the heroine gets a dose of reality. The BIGGEST reason why we watch movies and anime is to escape from reality, not get back into it. I want to see the heroine with the heart of gold surpass every obstacle that gets thrown in her way. I want to see love, love found, love fulfilled, and most of all, love realized.
Alright, it sounds like Princess Tutu might be a really sappy mushy show with singing and dancing people and animals. Princess Tutu does have dancing people and animals (the two items are separate, no dancing-animals) but it is nowhere near sappy, nor mushy, nor (Thank God) does it have singing animals. Cutie Honey: The Movie
Japanese Television DVD Review
by Laurence Sufrin
Future comic fans will look back at the live-action superhero movies of the early 21st century. They will no doubt recall with fondness Batman Begins, Superman Returns, and at least two of the three Spider-Man movies. Others will speak with surprise about the quality and success of the Transformers movie. Here's hoping somebody will pipe up among the din and make sure Cutie Honey receives the honorable mention it richly deserves.
Cutie Honey is a crime-fighting, quick-changing android girl whose been wowing Japan since 1973. She began life like many a superhero has: in a comic book. A manga written by the creator of Devil Man himself, the famous Go Nagai, Honey went on to star in several anime productions over the last few decades. Read More at our Cutie Honey shrine...

Hello Kitty Wrist Watch
Anime Toy Review by Brian Cirulnick
The wristwatch is a dying device. Most people we know use a cell-phone as their time-keeping gadget, because it's handy, it's accurate, and usually has an abundance of extra features such as an alarm clock. Nobody should ever need to strap a tick-tick-tick watch to their wrist.
Unless of course, you're out to make a statement. Unless of course, you're out to separate yourself from the herd, stand above the crowd, proclaim to the world that YOU ARE DIFFERENT!!!!! You are an individual and you have your own sense of style!
And what could be more stylish than a kitty with no mouth? An adorable Hello Kitty watch, who'll make you smile every time you check the time. Stand out and be noticed. Meow! Check out our Hello Kitty shrine... |

Angry Little Girls
by Leia Lee
Graphic Novel Review
by Brian Cirulnick
If you've always wondered what kawaii chan-like cutesy little girls would be like if they were like South Park characters, cursed like sailors, and were generally angry all the time (teen angst has come a little early, my guess is that they'll suffer from a mid-life crisis before hitting puberty), then you'd like to see what happens in this colorful, strange, and bizarre look at some very angry little girls. Manga Mania:
Occult and Horror
How To Draw Manga Book Review by Brian Cirulnick
Let's face it, we all like the characters of the underworld and vampires in particular, because they are sexy. Long, lean, powerful bodies, haunting expressions, deep, seductive eyes and smolderingly sexy looks always make these characters sinfully delicious. Read More...
