Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings
Anime Blu-ray Review by Brian Cirulnick
Really, who needs an army when you're essentially a super-powered Samurai? All those troops we see are there, it seems, to just hold the ground fought for, not to actually fight for it. All the fighting is done by the major characters, who all have enough devastating power to shake the Earth to it's very core.
Based on the videogame series, this anime seeks to extend/expand the storyline from the game as well as present the characters with deeper aspirations than their one-dimensional counterparts in the game itself.
Sengoku Basara drops us directly into the burning battlefields of feudal Japan, where rival warlords hack and slash their way to total domination. Each conqueror wields a special attack that boosts their power of devastation and each one commands a horde of relentless warriors.
But when a supreme evil, The Demon Lord, threatens the land, these fierce generals launch a co-op campaign of annihilation and build an "army of armies" to obliterate their common foe. As the front line grows crowded with gun-toting mechanized samurai and mystical ninja, some will say that war is hell, but Senogku Basara proves that it can also be kick-ass.
